Did you know that 60% of people over the age of 60 say they have more things than they really need? Whether you’re looking to live more simply, or are thinking about moving into a senior living community, it may be time to start rightsizing your life.
Many people find that when they simplify their lives, they can make room for what really matters. But that process can be daunting.
Elizabeth Fitzgerald, founder of Austin Home Transitions, sees this all the time. Putting a moving plan in place and then actually making it happen can be complicated and overwhelming for the whole family.
“Older adults typically haven’t moved in decades,” she says, “and downsizing a lifetime of possessions is a big job.”
There’s a lot to do, and Fitzgerald says it takes good planning. You can see from a typical moving schedule, that you should start the process up to 8 months in advance of your move.
You can do it yourself, but many people utilize experienced, insured professionals to make the transition smooth.
